Dayton Canstruction
Design & Build Competition

What is Canstruction?

Imagine a project that isn’t built with lumber, brick, or steel, but instead uses creatively-arranged canned goods to bring a spectacular sculpture to life. That’s what Dayton Canstruction is all about!

Canstruction is a unique blend of philanthropy, teambuilding, and a challenge of your team’s creativity and ingenuity. Teams design and build a CanSculpture using only canned goods, competing for awards in categories like "Best Use of Labels" and "Structural Ingenuity." Following the competition, 100% of the canned goods used are donated to The Foodbank of Greater Dayton.

In 2023, nine local companies built CanSculptures that combined for a donation of over 26,000 canned goods to the Foodbank of Greater Dayton. We hope to beat these numbers in 2024— and we want YOU to be a part of it.

Event details

Canstruction Kickoff: This event is held after final designs and orders are submitted. All teams are invited and encouraged to send at least one representative to share their design with their competitors. This event builds the excitement for Canstruction while offering enjoyable opportunities to network and socialize.

Build Day: This is the big day— the day your team's CanSculpture comes to life! Teams arrive to the Dayton Mall, where their cans will be waiting for them in a designated area. All that's left to do then is get building!

Canstruction Celebration and Awards: Attendees will eat, drink, socialize, and celebrate at this evening that officially concludes the yearly Canstruction event cycle. All teams and event partners are encouraged to attend. Awards will be presented in six categories. The group will also hear from The Foodbank about the impact their participation in Canstruction will have on the Greater Dayton community.

FAQ

How do I register my team?

You have options! Email [email protected], fill out the interest form above, OR register here.

Do we have to bring our own cans?

Nope! Each team will create a design for their CanSculpture and complete an order sheet with all the canned goods needed for the sculpture. OVABC handles all transport and organization of the orders. Your cans will be ready and waiting for you on Build Day!

What are the fees?

There are no fees to participate in Dayton Canstruction. Your only cost is for your canned goods.

How do we choose our cans?

Because all canned/dry goods for Dayton Canstruction are ordered through Kroger, teams typically head to a local Kroger store to choose their desired items. An official order sheet with all needed information is provided after registration.

Are there any rules for our CanSculpture?

Detailed guidelines will be provided to team captains after registration. You are also welcome to reach out to [email protected] with questions at any time.

Have more questions? Reach out to Claire Schoenfeld at [email protected] or (937) 521-1576.
